“Fix ASU”
This is the unofficial to-do list for Arizona State University. Make ASU better by voting for and suggesting ideas. The administration has been informed of this page and we’ll remind them of it regularly!

Ditch “Blackboard” for better, more open course software
The ideal Blackboard replacement:
• Would work on all standards-compliant browsers
• Would not be frame-based (HTML)
• Would allow students to subscribe to course announcements via RSS, Email, or nothing (their choice) instead of having to check the site manually
• Would allow exporting events in standard iCal format
• Would allow subscribing to events (such as assignment due dates, organization events, etc) via Google Calendar, iCal, Outlook or any iCal-compliant calendar program
• Would be better linked. For example, looking at Class X's grades on the Grades page currently does not link to Class X's course home page. … more65 votes -
Retrofit Brickyard classrooms to have more electric outlets
It makes no sense that there could be 4 outlets in a classroom full of 60 Computer Science majors (and their laptops). Regardless of ownership of the facility, the classrooms and lounge *need* more outlets.

Provide recycling bins next to every trash bin
ASU claims to be sustainable – but until every every classroom, lecture hall, office, and hallway has a (commingled) recycling bin, it’s all talk.

Set up bike theft sting operations
Everyone knows bikes at ASU get stolen all the time. In fact, if you left a bike unlocked at ASU (or a nice bike locked) at ASU overnight, for even one night, it would be gone. Everyone knows it, yet nobody tries to stop it. Wouldn't it be nice if, once a month, ASU police set up a "bait" bike and then waited to arrest the people who tired to steal it at night.

This is a great idea! I attempted to forward this to the ASU Police department but they are hard to contact & their email address bounces (nice!).

Let incoming freshmen live off campus if they choose
According to Michael Coakley, associate dean of student affairs and executive director of housing, all incoming freshmen next fall will have to live in the dorms. There are plenty of people that can hardly afford college while living at home or in a close apartment, making them pay high rates and a meal plan to live in the dorms is not something that will help attract more students or let low income students attend college.

I believe the AZ constitution has a mandate that higher education should be “as nearly free as possible.” This would indeed suggest that living on campus be completely optional

Sell the turbines on top of the Sustainability building
Question: Why can the turbines on top of the School of Sustainability building be seen spinning when there is no wind in the trees?
Answer: Because they are being spun by motors to give the appearance they are generating electricity.
ASU should do the right thing: stop pretending, recoup the cost of the turbines by selling them, and make real progress toward Sustainability.22 votes -

fix the elevators in PSA/Wexler Hall
The elevators in PSA are in extreme disrepair. One has even been walled off. Wexler Hall currently only has one working elevator to service 8 floors of people (and 2 basements)! On top of that, the algorithm seems to have been developed by a CSE 100 student because the elevators sometimes don't even go to the correct floor.

Make grades easier to check
Why does the current view-grades process log out every ~10 minutes, and not work with my brower's remember-password functionality, and make me choose the freaking semester each time? Doy! I’m checking the current semester!

increase its standards for admitting students
There are way too many stupid kids that go to this Uni.

Allow access via stairs to all floors of all buildings
Elevators: Convenient (when the wait isn't long). Stairs: More energy-efficient and support health of users. "Security" is a bogus reason to block stair access: card readers, which are typically already in place, can allow access to the floors based on individuals' permissions.

Simplify and consolidate all student finance information
Viewing and making sense of financial aid, scholarship, loan, account balance, and student worker compensation is altogether too difficult and confusing. One page should provide a clear, concise summary of all these aspects of financing and a gateway to more details and related actions.

Explain how registering for classes works
This semester I noticed that registering for classes have been staggered - some people get to register before others - with no clear explanation why some get to register before others.

Generate .ics (ICAL) subscriptions for class schedules
My.ASU.edu can generate a weekly calendar, but only for viewing or printing. I should be able to subscribe (or download) an .ics calendar subscription. This would allow us to view our classes in Google Calendar, Apple iCal, Outlook, and even on the iPhone.

look into the matter how students are employed at the bookstore.
There is a lady sitting at the bookstore office who takes the resume's of all the students who come to apply for the bookstore positions. She never forwards them to the upper management because she thinks only those who have worked in bookstore before must be employed and not anybody else. This is ridiculous!

not require vouchers for season pass holders
students who purchase the $100 season passes should be able to attend all of the games. why should we pay that money if we cannot attend the games we are paying for?
